How to Root Samsung Galaxy S5 with CF-Auto-Root

Samsung’s flagship phone ‘The GALAXY S5’ was unveiled one month ago in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The SGS5 was also officially unveiled for India as well. It will become available worldwide starting April 11th. But, Chainfirea Senior developer on the XDA Developers forum has already successfully rooted the international version of the SGS5. This method is applicable only to Galaxy S5 SM G900F (Europe version) and is now compatible with different SGS models too.

Update (April 11) 11 April) – Chainfire has changed the root of the model SM-G900F (International Qualcomm) model and has added root support for the following models:

SM-G900H (International Exynos)

SM-G900M (Middle and South America)

SM-G900R4 (US Cellular)

SM-G900T (T-Mobile US)

SM-G900T1 (Metro PCS)

SM-G900W8 (Canada)

SM-G900P (Sprint)

Rooting is possible by using Chainfire’s well-known Auto-Root as well as the ODIN tool that is the most efficient method to gain root access for people who want to keep the stock firmware. This guide will install SuperSU APK, binary and Recovery from stock on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Prior to proceeding, take note that:

  • Rooting voids your device warranty. Follow this tutorial on your own at risk!
  • This process will increase the counter for your flash and triggers your KNOX warrantee flag. It also seems to disable the private mode function.
  • This guide is intended only for the mentioned Galaxy S5 models.

Guide to Root Samsung Galaxy S5

1. Check your device model under Settings > About device > Model number. Check to make sure that the model number is compatible.

2. Installation of Samsung USB drivers on your Windows system. (Download v1.5.40.0)

3. Download the CF-Auto-Root .zip file and extract it into an appropriate folder.

4. The device should be booted into the ODIN Download mode to do this turn off the phone. Hold the ‘Volume Down and Home button’ while holding both buttons at the same time, hold down the Power button until you are presented with an alert screen. After that, release the buttons and press ‘Volume up to go into the Download mode.

5. Connect it to your PC using a USB cable.

6. Start Odin3-v3.07.exe. ODIN will show an ID:COM port number. ID:COM box that indicates the device has been connected successfully.

7. Select”PDA” PDA‘ option in ODIN . Don’t alter the other fields. Browse and select the CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.tar.md5 file. Check that Repartition is not unchecked.

8. After you click Start, let the process be completed, and the phone will then reboot itself. There should be a PASS notification in ODIN. You can verify root privileges by using the Root Checker app.

It’s done! After the device restarts, you will be able to see the SuperSU application installed.
