OxygenOS 5.1.0 update brings 'Swipe up to answer calls' gesture on OnePlus 5 & 5T

There’s good news for OnePlus 5/5T owners. OnePlus has begun rollout its stabile OxygenOS 5.1.0 OTA update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T. The update comes with Android 8.1 Oreo along with the most recent security patch of April to both phones. For those who aren’t aware of this Android 8.1 Oreo update was first introduced in Open Beta 4 Open Beta 4 and is currently rolling out to all users. The most notable feature of the update is full-screen gestures, which provide iPhone-like navigation for the OnePlus 5T and they work flawlessly.

Here is the changelog that has been officially announced:


System

  • Updated the system up to Android(tm) 8.1 Oreo
  • The update has been made to the Android security patch for 2018-04
  • Full-screen gesture support added (Only 5T)


Game mode

  • New optimizations were added in gaming mode, including the power-saving feature and pausing the adaptive brightness
  • Network boost added – network prioritization for gaming apps in the background


Launcher

  • Created category tags in the search area of the drawer app
  • Auto name folders that are based on the category

Alongside the previously mentioned modifications, the update also includes a feature that is needed to swipe left or right to answer phone calls. This feature was first introduced in the beta version and has now been added to the stable version.

The ability to personalize the capability to swipe up or down to answer the phone should please most OnePlus 5/5T owners. This is because Android users have become accustomed to using swipe up gestures to answer calls, however, with phones like the OnePlus 5/5T, users was required to swipe down to answer calls up until the present. It was common for this to result in the dismissal of some calls accidentally, especially in the beginning.

How do I enable ‘Swipe up to reply’ on OnePlus

To change this setting, start the dialer on your phone and tap three dots and then select Settings. Turn on the switch to setting “Swipe up to answer” setting.

That’s it! Now you can swipe up to answer phone calls using your OnePlus 5/5T when it’s locked screen mode.

In addition, the update introduces new styles of clocks for Ambient display as well as the possibility of setting an announcement message to display.
