Guide to Unlock LG G4 Bootloader

LG G4 is a fantastic phone, but among the top looked on aspects of the LG flagship series is its OS and slow user interface. Many of us will try to install an ROM that is custom made, like the CM or similar. The first step to unlock the full potential of a smartphone is unlocking its bootloader, which was designed by the manufacturer to stop users to access things and altering! In this article we will guide you through ways to open the bootloader on the LG G4!

Pre-requisites:

  1. USB driver to LG G4
  2. ADB driver to LG G4
  3. The Platform Toolkit / the Slim SDK – Unzip it into an appropriate folder

Before proceeding, take note of:

  • Locking the bootloader can void the warranty of your device.
  • Unlocking wipes all data that is stored in your gadget. Make sure you take an image of everything important.
  • After unlocking the phone, you will not be able to return the phone back to locked status.

Steps:

Registering on LG’s developer portal

  1. Go to the LG developer portal and sign up to create your account (Developer Member)
  2. After successfully registering an account, you will get an email notification from LG asking for confirmation. Go ahead and confirm your participation/account
  3. Go there to go on then the LG Developer webpage and sign in to your account.
  4. You can register your phone using LGH815 using your IMEI as well as Device ID. [IMEI is located under the Settings menu > More About Phone, or simply by typing the code *#06#*#06#

Locating your Device ID and then submitting it:

  1. Enable ‘Developer Options’ Go to Settings > About Phone and tap on the number of the build seven times in order to activate Developer options
  2. Enable OEM Unlock Return to the Settings screen, and scroll down until the option Developer, then tap it. Locate OEM Unlock and then select/check it. You’ll be notified that the device’s protection features won’t work. Click ‘Yes’ and then reboot the phone when it asks you to
  3. Find ‘USB debugging’ in the Developer options and turn on it.
  4. Connect the LG G4 to your PC with an USB cable. At this point, you will see the “Allow USB debugging’ in the LG G4. Tap OK to proceed. It is crucial to complete this step. If you don’t notice this, disconnect and reconnect
  5. Go to the default slim SDK folder you’ve unzipped and then open a command prompt by pressing your Shift Key and then a Right Click. Select ‘Open Command Window here’.
  6. Enter the following command: adb reboot bootloader and press enter to switch your LG G4 into the fastboot mode.
  7. Enter fastboot device-id from the oem and press enter. This will show two distinct numbers. Use these two characters and paste them into the LG’s Developer page that you are on , and then click submit. You should now be sent an email by LG

Unlocking the bootloader

  1. In the email you receive from LG Look for the attachment that bears”unlock.bin” in the title. unlock.bin
  2. Copy this file to your Slim SDK folder from before
  3. Return to the cmd window , and enter the flash key for fastboot unlock.bin and hit enter
  4. Reboot your phone using the fastboot boot prompt
  5. To determine if your device has been successfully unlocked to verify that it is unlocked, switch to fastboot mode and type ” fastboot getvar unlocked“. The result should read “unlocked: yes”
