Xiaomi unveils Redmi 2, Successor to Redmi 1S [Features 64-bit Processor & 4G-LTE]

Xiaomi has announced a new smartphone with 4G technology ” Redmi 2” to its budget-friendly lineup that is the successor to the Redmi 1S. Redmi 2 Redmi 2 will be initially available in China for $699, which is ($112) and will later be made available in other countries, including India. Redmi 2 will be the third phone in the Redmi series following Redmi 1S as well as Redmi Note. Redmi 2 comes with significant enhancements over the predecessor Redmi 1S and a few features are shared by both.

In contrast to Redmi 1S, the Redmi 2 comes with a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, Adreno 306 GPU and 4G-LTE capabilities (with the ability to support both TDD as well as FDD band) Dual-SIM 4G and a 2MP front-facing camera, and a slightly larger capacity battery of 2200mAh. It also has support of Quick Charge 1.0 rapid charge technology to facilitate faster charging.

Redmi 2 Redmi 2 looks much identical to the Redmi 1S in that both feature the same 4.7″ IPS HD display with 312ppi resolution and use the same design language. Redmi 2 is Redmi 2 is however lighter at 133g and smaller at 9.4mm in comparison to the Redmi 1S which weighs 158g and measures 9.9mm thick. Other specs include 1GB RAM, an 8MP rear camera that has an LED flash and 8GB of storage internal (expandable by 32GB) 4G LTE/3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 with b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG support.

In contrast to the Redmi 1S, Redmi 2 accepts micro-SIM cards , which is quite common in smartphones today. Additionally, Redmi 2 comes with MIUI version 6 built upon Android 4.4 KitKat, unlike the Redmi 1S which came with Android 4.3 modified using MIUI 5. It’s not clear whether the new model has the backlight feature for buttons that are capacitive. It comes with five colors for the back cover: White, Black, Yellow, Sea Green and Pink.

We truly hope Xiaomi will launch Redmi 2 shortly in India.
